Skateboarding: which types it suits

Board sports

Fall, laugh, get back on: that's basically the whole sport

Skateboarding means pushing along on a four-wheeled board and learning tricks. You start by pushing and turning on flat ground, then move on to tricks like the ollie, where you and the board pop into the air together. It became an Olympic sport at the Tokyo 2020 Games, and city skate parks fill up at weekends with skaters of all ages. All you need is a board, trainers, a helmet and pads, and taking turns on each feature is basic skate park manners.

Skateboarding suits people who prefer playing freely to following rules. Taking dozens of tries to land one trick is completely normal, so skaters get very good at laughing off a miss, and when anyone lands something, even a stranger, the whole park taps their boards on the ground to celebrate. It holds on to people who always want to try something new.
